What are the dues? Dues are $80 a month, payable by check or cash
What should I wear to class? Visitors and beginning students should wear any loose and comfortable clothes (with a short-sleeved shirt) and shoes. Later, students will be expected to wear black kung-fu style pants and a school T-shirt.
How is class run? Class is very informal, with little ceremony or protocol. For the first half of class, Sifu Kolman concentrates on the beginning students. In the latter half of class, he focuses more on advanced students. Everyone is on a first name basis. Most of the time is spent working in pairs on skills or techniques.
Do I need any previous martial arts experience? No. In the initial phases of training, beginners will usually be taught separately. Later, as they advance, they train with more advanced students.
Is there much aerobics or stretching in the typical class? Well, there's no WingChunercize. The practice of Wing Chun alone is excellent exercise for the whole body, including the arms, shoulders, back, hips and legs. Although we do some conditioning work on occasion, we mostly focus on developing Wing Chun skills. It's expected that students get what other exercise they might want or need elsewhere. Wing Chun does not require extremes of flexibility (e.g., there are no high kicks), and so stretching is not a routine part of class.
Are there children's classes? No, our policy is not to teach anyone under the age of 16. Occasional exceptions have been made for especially mature students accompanied by a parent.
